Hello all of you beautiful souls, I’d like to talk briefly about beauty. Over the Christmas break, my family and I (3 girls aged 5, 3, and 8 months) spend several days on the Weeki Wachee River in SW Florida. It was an absolutely breathtaking mix of sandy bottom river, virgin palmetto forests and literally swimming with and touching manatees, fish, turtles, ect. The time I spent silently paddle-boarding on that river, with my three or five year old on the front, shouting “Look there’s a Manatee” or watching the perfect way a mullet moves through the water… these moments were priceless. It was about connection and shared experience yes, but also about the absolute undeniable beauty we beheld. For much of my life I thought that beauty was simply about aesthetics and physicality. But, as I have gotten older, I have realized beauty is about so much more. It is about transcendence and connection, and perhaps a view of things as they should be.
